18.8.2010 07:14 · více o článku · shuttle x350 might slim performance pushover
The Shuttle X350 has been sent to the fat house, resulting in a form factor that is 33% the size of its predecessor at a mere 38.5mm thin. This slim design will certainly jive with many modern homes these days, especially those who want to maximize their living space in increasingly cramped conditions. You can easily mount it behind a flat screen TV or monitor, and since it has a fanless design, you can be sure using it as a Home Theater PC (HTPC) is also a viable option since there won't be the irritating humming of the cooling fan to disrupt your movie viewing experience. Powered by a dual-core Intel Atom D510 processor, this nettop will feature full PC functionality, packing in features including an integrated Intel chipset (or next generation NVIDIA ION graphics with true 1080p HDMI output if you have the budget and need for it), a slim optical drive bay, five USB 2.0 ports, a 4-in-1 memory card reader and a D-sub connector. It has already hit Europe earlier this year, but we do hope to see it in the US as the product page still mentions it as "Coming Soon". The Tobii S32 recorded speech device is a unique gadget that enables one to communicate using pre-recorded messages which can be activated at the touch of a finger. Apart from pre-recorded messages, it also handles sounds or IR-signals simply by touching a sheet of printed symbols, pictures, or scenes. These messages can be recorded straight onto the Tobii S32 or through the Tobii SymbolMate software, where the latter allows a user to create page sets and print them out on virtually any printer. You can choose from Touch and Scan models of the Tobii S32, where the former will specifically target individuals who have the ability to touch pictures and symbols while the Tobii S32 Scan was developed for those who have difficulty controlling their hands to touch the pictures and symbols, using switches instead to make their choice in the grids or scenes. More features of both devices are available in the extended post. No word on pricing even on the product page itself, but we know it will hit the market this coming fall. 29.7.2010 05:14 · více o článku · amazon announces attractively-priced next-generation kindle
Amazon has just launched its next-generation Kindle eBook reader, and this latest iteration claims to be 21 percent smaller and 15 percent lighter, while still maintaining the 6-inch reading area. While its features will be attractive to many folks, which include 20 percent faster page turns, up to one month battery life (with Wi-Fi off), 3G, double to storage to approximately 3,500 books, and a graphite color option, the most interesting thing will be its $189 asking price, which is quite competitive. If you still feel that it's too pricey for you, you can opt for the Wi-Fi-only model, which does away with 3G connectivity, but will only set you back $139. Both models are currently up for pre-order, and will be shipping to customers in over 140 countries and 30 territories from August 27th. A new $35 leather case will also be offered, along with a $60 version that includes a retracting reading light. The question is, will it be able to fend off the challenge from Apple's popular iPad? Folks who are looking forward to getting hold of the Android-powered Dell Streak might not be too happy to hear that they might have to wait a little longer, as it has been revealed that the device may not arrive in July as originally planned, but will be released later this summer. The pre-order page originally planned for the device to be released today, but it has since been changed to "soon", which doesn't sound very specific. Hopefully Dell will be able to sort out whatever issue is preventing it from releasing the Streak on time, and maybe even update the device to Android 2.1/2.2 when it's launched, instead of the old Android 1.6.
