Lenovo Working On An Android-powered LePad Tablet

Lenovo has confirmed that it’s currently developing a touch-only Android-powered tablet, dubbed the LePad. Details are still quite sketchy, but it should be available by the end of 2010, and while it isn't clear whether Lenovo will be offering it outside of China, but speculation is that Lenovo might focus on getting some good sales figures for the LePad in China, before offering it overseas. While its still unclear as to what specifications the LePad will have, but its possible that it could share similar specifications of the company's IdeaPad U1 (pictured above), which sports a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and a 10-inch multi-touch display. Let's see if Lenovo's LePad will be able to give the iPad a good run for its money when it's released. At CES, we saw two compelling new products from Lenovo: the LePhone, a slick and powerful Android smartphone, and the U1, an interesting hybrid notebook-tablet. Unfortunately, neither one was destined to make its way into our hands. The LePhone is looking to be an Asia-only device, and the U1 has been shelved to make way for an Android-powered variant. But Lenovo isn't giving up — well, not on China, anyway. Lenovo's Core i3-powered ThinkPad Edge 14 is a pretty nifty notebook, but in the event that you feel that it doesn't have enough grunt to satisfy you, you'll be quite happy to hear that Lenovo is now offering its ThinkPad Edge 14 with the option of a 2.66GHz Core i7-620M processor, though it will reduce your bank account by an additional $350. That being said, if you're a performance junkie, the ability to have Turbo Boost up to 3.33GHz and 4MB of cache should be enough to justify the additional cash needed to upgrade to this processor. All-in-one (AIO) computers are becoming increasingly popular, probably because they look good and do save quite a bit of space. Lenovo is probably is looking to capitalize on that trend by announcing its ThinkCentre M90z AIO that packs a 23-inch display, and is powered by Intel's Core i3 or i5 processors. One of the more notable features of the M90z is the fact that its built-in webcam sports a physical switch to toggle to the camera on/off, giving you some additional privacy when you don't want someone to be able to check you out. The M90z is currently available and will set you back about $899. Other features of this AIO computer include DDR3 memory, hard drive/solid state drive, DVD burner, and optional Wi-Fi/Bluetooth. Late last month, Lenovo submitted information on its ThinkPad Mini 10 to the folks at the FCC, and here's what they have decided to reveal to the public for consumption - we know that the ThinkPad Mini 10 will be equipped with a WiMAX module, where the antenna within is more or less similar to the one in the X100e from Lenovo. Bear in mind that having WiMAX within is going to cost you more dough, and to get a ballpark figure, it costs another $150 to stick a Gobi 2000 3G chip in a ThinkPad X100e. The folks over at Dell probably won’t be too happy with the recent videos that Lenovo has posted. We’re talking about the video (available in the full post) that they put up, subjecting the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge and Dell’s Vostro V13 to torture tests. As expected (if not Lenovo probably wouldn’t put the video up), the Dell Vostro V13’s LCD didn’t survive the stress test, while the ThinkPad Edge came out unscathed. Lenovo's IdeaPad X100e Dual Core options are now available just in case you want to spruce up the X100e before bringing one home. To throw in the Athlon Neo X2 L335 processor, you will need to add another $45 while the Turion Neo X2 L625 costs an additional $70. Apart from the processor options, all the rest remain the same. To get a better idea on how much a basic machine costs, a Turion-powered X100e with Bluetooth connectivity, 1GB RAM and 160GB hard drive will cost $539. Lenovo has also just announced a Lenovo C200, an all-in-one Netop that features a dual-core Atom D510 processor and an NVIDIA Ion graphics processor with 256MB of video memory. This model should not be confused with an old Lenovo C200 that was a laptop. With this all-in-one computer, Lenovo expects to grab more market share in the $400-$500 touch PC segment. Lenovo S10 3s: great looking Netbook

Lenovo has announced the IdeaPad S30-3s Netbook, a shiny white Netbook that starts at around $380. It is an evolution of the previous Lenovo S10-3 model with the similar chiclet keyboard and all, but with an updated case design that is a little bit more curvy on the corners. Also, the display resolution can be configurable (at order time) to be as high as 1280x720, and there's a 32GB SSD option that provides a cheap entry into the SSD -enabled computers. On the software side, Lenovo has loaded the computer with DirectShare, an application that syncs the content of the Netbook with another computer. There's also Maplife, a geo-location helper that finds your location from the WiFi hotspots around you. We've included the specifications highlights in the full post. Lenovo company chief Yang Yuanqing said that soon the majority of Lenovo products would run on the mobile web, meaning a cross of 3G and 4G technologies. Most of their current line comes with 3G built in and their ThinkPad line is just screaming out for mobile web simply because it is aimed at the on-the-go professional. What think I on this topic? I think Lenovo is unqiuely placed to take advantage of the mobile web, along with Dell and HP. All three are seen as "business" notebook manufacturers, for better or worse, and that's a low margin business. By adding 3G capabilities out of the box they presumably get a cut from the carriers as they sell more units. více

It doesn’t take a genius to guess that Palm is going through some rather troubled times at the moment, and the recent rumors of possible acquisitions by Lenovo and HTC certainly haven’t helped. Now Bloomberg is reporting that Palm has put itself up for sale, and offers should be coming in sometime this week. The news did do Palm’s stock a little bit of good, as the stock price did go up amidst all the speculation.
