Details of the upcoming Canon EOS 60D haven't been confirmed yet, but the camera itself is expected to be unveiled on August 26th. Official pictures of the camera haven't surfaced yet, but fortunately some folks out there have managed to snag some spy shots of what should be the 60D, and the tilting display is rather noticeable too, which is good news for folks who like to use displays like that. What you see on the right could be the Canon PowerShot G12, but most people have dismissed it to be a fake as it is most probably a sloppy Photoshop job. The camera, it seems, will lack an optical viewfinder to make way for a smaller body which will in turn let the lens look a whole lot larger than expected. Its smaller body would also mean a pop-up flash is in attendance as it is no longer able to incorporate an integrated version. You will get a 5X, f2.8-4.5 lens with the rumored Canon PowerShot G12, alongside a focus light, hot shoe and dual dials for the mode and ISO. Real or fake? You be the judge. This device is a wireless laser mouse that connects to your PC or Mac via Bluetooth, and as you can see, it sports a built-in calculator too. In case you're worried your palm starts to automatically calculate your expenditure while using the mouse, you can rest easy as the calculator function can be disabled when not in use, and vice versa, since you can disable the mouse when you need it to function as a calculator. The "compact enthusiast" category of camera, which I have just now made up, includes such devices as the Canon G11, Sigma DP2, and some of the more consumer-oriented M4/3 cameras. It's for the photographer who wants more control, slightly better glass, and doesn't care about the creature comforts of touchscreens and in-camera sepia tones. Panasonic's entry in this class (among others) was the competent LX3, now being supplanted by the slightly (but not trivially) improved LX5. The 5D mk II 2.0.3 firmware was supposed to be the end-all solution for the Canon super camera. But it wasn't. It caused more issues not worth the enhanced movie mode it added. A bunch of researchers at the University of Liege managed to pit their brains together, coming up with an algorithm which is smart enough to separate movement from background in a digital camera. They dub the process ViBe, and this patented piece of code will not exceed 100 lines of C. Control Your DSLR Via A Nintendo DS With The Open Camera Controller Hack

Some folks over at the HDRLabs have come up with a rather cool hack for their DSLR camera and Nintendo DS. Dubbed the Open Camera Controller (OCC), it uses an older Nintendo DS to control the functions of Canon DSLR cameras, though Olympus and Sigma cameras are also supported. The best part is, this device can make connected cameras perform functions that the manufacturers didn’t add in by default on the camera, such as the ability to capture time lapse shots with a built-in alarm and triggering the shutter by clapping your hands instead of pressing the shutter button. If you’re interested in coming up with one of these yourself, instructions on how to do so have been posted by HDRLabs. The OCC was tested with the Canon 30D, 40D, 50D, 5D and 5D Mark II, Sigma DSLRs, the Casio EX-FX1 and the Olympus E-P1.
